Blogging is now probably the most popular
hobbies in the world. Thanks to the interactive paradigm of Web 2.0, anyone
with an Internet connection and a computer can and often does, go online and
tell everyone in the world about how he feels. Bloggers come from all walks of
life: from the media, to the scientific community, from teenagers, to senior
citizens. Everyone wants to blog and talk and express themselves.
A big trap of blogging, however, is the
lack of privacy. In the past, to keep private life private is standard
operating procedure. Today, if you get too personal, you are not in the crowd.
However, if you have a blog, there are habits you might want to avoid.
- Do not give out any personal
information, no matter how entertaining or informative blog. At best, give your
email, avoid giving details about the way in which you live, or your workplace,
or stores that you visit regularly. Sure, your friends care about you and would
love to hear how your world looks, but how confident you are that they are
people just read your blog? You never know who will pounce on your blog and
reading your entries, so be extra careful!
- Do not underestimate one of your boss,
or, for that matter, anyone in the workplace. True, you can complain about how
hard work, but do not tell everyone about your boss, your co-worker behavior,
or the carelessness of your company's CEO. This may be the age of freedom of
expression, but all people deserve respect; that you want someone to bash you
in their blog and tell the whole world your dirty little secret?
- Avoid posting pictures of yourself. You
can put up a good headshot or two, but avoid putting too many pictures. This
may sound like a long shot, but there are ways to manipulate images, and put
his head on the body of another person. You do not want your photo on a porn
site?
- Avoid posting pornographic pictures, or
write about sensitive issues like hating a particular race, any form of
discrimination, and violence.
- Avoid grammatical errors and
punctuation! This may seem like a useful tip, but there are hundreds of blogs
on the Internet is heavy with the error, and they can be exhausting, not to
mention annoying to read. Are your readers help: write well, think well, and
reason as well. Give them something good to look at refill, not something to be
laughed or scoffed at.
